From what I remember of it, there is no eccentric componant to say the 'squat' or 'overhead press'. Is this still a valid piece of exercise equipment - could be invaluable if you live in a flat (apartment) and want to pratice the snatch (bumpers would sure wake-up the neighbours). Or a swim trainer as my friend did.
Did a search, they still make 'em; Exer-Genie from TheTrainer made in the good ol' US of A

This is a great device. It can be used for a variety of workouts.
It can be used for:
> Strongman style work such as simulated truck pulls, rope pulling, speed work with a harness, all that sort of thing, Just need a longer string and a harness. You can see examples of this on the Exer Genie site - they sell kits for a couple of hundred dollars ready to roll with all of the necessary attachments - or can source own.
> Suspension trainer handles can be picked up and swap out the straight handles. This means that the device can be used as a suspension trainer. In addition to this the resistance can be set to zero and the strong will slide through like those resistance trainers with pullet mechanism i.e. 'War Machine' and 'Human Trainer' for example.
> It can be used for the traditional exercises incolving isometric holds and isokinetic movements.
Those are just a few quick examples. Ultimately devices like this are only limited by imagination and with 600lb of resistance it would keep most people entertained for a long time!
